Sleeping on 4D comfort waterbeds |
Why and how the 4D-Comfort mattress was developed From the very beginning, the company T.T.I.
in Bree (Belgium) has set as its main objective: the development of the ideal comfortable sleeping
system. In order to offer even more comfort and an even better sleep, T.T.I. continuously
aims to improve its waterbed systems. The development of something as important as a sleep system
involves of course a lot of research and analysis of data.
It's slowly becoming clear that an uninterrupted sleep is of the highest importance to recuperate a tired body and mind, that's why we decided to cooperate with top sportsmen and their medical crew to develop the newest generation of mattresses. In 2001 the T.T.I. research team put up a
cooperation with the Lotto Adecco cycle team. During a training session in the Spanish town Calpé,
the whole team was asked to sleep on specially developed prototype mattresses of T.T.I.. The
medical crew closely followed this experiment and collected precise data from the cyclists and
their recuperation after their heavy practice.
At the end of the experiment, all the participants were impressed with the effect of the comfort mattress developed by T.T.I.. Based on the data collected by the medical staff and the comments of the cyclists, the system was further improved. A few months later, they did a second training session, but this time in competition circumstances. During the 4 day race from Duinkerken, the Lotto-Adecco cycle team made use of the T.T.I. 4D-Comfort watermattresses again. This test was also closely followed up and valuable data were collected again, regarding the physical condition of the cyclists. But why all these tests?
Well, because T.T.I. wanted to prove the results of sleeping on a perfect comfort mattress during the biggest event in the world: The tour de France! Based on earlier results, the Lotto - Adecco cycling team was all too happy to accept T.T.I.'s offer. During the whole Tour 2002 the cyclists slept on the meanwhile improved version of the comfort mattress. With some nice results: That year the Australian-Belgian cyclist Robbie McEwan won the famous green jersey, and the comfort mattress made a very good impression on Rik Verbrugghe and Serge Baguet, who later purchased a T.T.I. comfort mattress for themselves. The unique properties of this comfort mattress made the cyclists more relaxed and they recuperate much better from the immense efforts during the exhausting Tour de France. That's the most important part during these stage races: performing to the best of your potential every day, even if the previous day wore you out. The team's medical crew and assistants meticulously recorded the performance statistics of the cyclists, and helped us to develop the perfect mattress Lotto-Adecco's medical crew's findings were confirmed later by international laboratories and researchers. They also noted that the team physically recovered much faster on a comfort mattress. The need for optimum recuperation, however, isn't just good for top sportsmen. Everyone needs an uninterrupted deep sleep to allow body and mind to recuperate from the exercise of the past day. T.T.I. just wanted to prove that this is true in the most extreme circumstances, meanwhile the company improved her system even further. The valuable data collected during these repeated sessions, made sure that T.T.I. gained a knowledge head start. This knowledge gave us the opportunity to develop the 4D-Comfort mattress. Through the development of the 4D-Vinyl, a new type of vinyl with extraordinary properties, was it possible to further improve recuperation in the deep sleep phase. The durability of the vinyl has noticeably increased as well. The final result, the 4D-Comfort mattress, was officially presented to the public in 2005. Due to this, we made the newest generation of sleep systems accessible to everyone. T.T.I. isn't sitting idle of course, further developments are being prepared.
With thanks to the Lotto-Adecco team and staff.
