Different types of waterbeds

Types of water beds (types of bedsteads)

There are various different types of waterbed frames that you should consider before choosing a waterbed. A waterbed frame is usually made of wood or metal. Naturally, metal or steel frames are more sturdy and durable than wooden waterbed frames. The waterbed frame generally consists of the head, foot and side rails. Sometimes, for larger beds a center support rail is needed, particularly for queen sized and king sized waterbeds.

Choosing the right type of waterbed frame is very important as waterbeds are often far heavier than ordinary beds and mattresses. A waterbed can be hardsided or softsided depending on the bed’s framing. A hardside waterbed makes use of a wooden box frame sitting on platform. The platform may include drawers to provide additional storage for the user. A softside waterbed usually consists of a sturdy type of foam casing enclosing the mattress which sits on a platform box.

Different types of waterbedsWaterbed frames also play a major role when choosing waterbed sheets or bedding. Not all bedding will fit the various types of waterbed frames. If you have a softsided frame, for example,  you can make use of waterbed sheets that have stretchable or elastic corners. This makes changing waterbed sheets easier and more convenient. For those with a hardside waterbed, a waterbed sheet with pockets in the corners will give it the perfect fit. Also, it will prevent the sheets from sliding off the mattress especially when you’re sleeping on it.

When purchasing waterbed frames, see to it that the frame is strong enough to hold and support the weight of your waterbed mattress. If you’re not sure about which waterbed frame is best for your own bed, get assistance from waterbed manufacturers online. Check out their websites and take advantage of the customer assistance that they offer. Most waterbed manufacturers offer to help customers for free either by calling a toll free number or by sending an email.

Don’t forget to shop around for different prices on different waterbed frames. Although metal frames may be a little more expensive than wood, it may still be worth the investment as more styles may be on offer to you. Furthermore, your waterbed will last longer if you’re going to place it on a type of frame which can properly support its weight.

Aside from waterbed frames, you might as well shop around for all the possible waterbed accessories that you may need. Examples of accessories you should consider using are waterbed pumps, waterbed heaters, waterbed conditioner, sheets or bedding and others. These accessories are essential in maintaining your waterbed in great condition and ensuring that they will last for years. If waterbeds are properly maintained, they can stay in shape for as long as 10 to 15 years.
There are many types of water beds.
The hardside waterbed with hard-edged sideboards is the original shape.
The water mattress was then directly placed in a strong wooden framework, that supported it from the sides.
The whole system rested on a baseboard, which was supported by a plinth and weight dividers. Between the mattress and the frame you would find a safety liner that would catch any water in case of a leak.

The modern version of the waterbed has a soft, synthetic mattress edge, called a softside. The water mattress for this type of waterbed is supported from the sides with foam rails
These types of beds have the disadvantage that they are harder to make up, and require a special type of fabric.

Different types of waterbeds The newest generation of waterbeds have a soft edge that is split into a lower fixated edge made out of a rigid material and an upper edge that is more flexible.
This foam rail support allows the system to stand alone, without the need for an extra bed frame.

4D-Comfort mattresses use the latter of these mattress containers. A mattress is made from the  highly technological 4D-Vinyl, and will provide you with enough comfort.
These patented products can be built-in any existing bed frame, because they are made-to-measure.  So there's no need for you to alter the interior of your bedroom.

The light weight mattresses aren't really a water mattress , but rather a thin layer of water placed on top of a foam mattress. Because this thin layer of water weighs far less, it can be placed in an ordinary bed without any extra supports. This mattress can be placed on a sturdy, whether or not adjustable slatted base. Many of the advantages of a waterbed, however, are lost. These mattresses are often used for homecare and are suitable for people suffering from pressure sores .
Types of water mattresses  (the mattress itself)
The different types of water mattresses stand out in shape, production technique, stabilization, and the material used.  The best comfort is provided by water mattresses with a 'comfort surface'. This is an extra flexible surface, that will mould even better to your body. Few manufacturers have mastered this technique.
The diagonal stretch pattern is the most effective one, because its adjustability increases your sleep comfort

The quality of the welds is important too. That's why, it is better to choose a manufacturer with years of experience in processing high quality foils.

Pretty much every water mattress manufacturer uses more or less the same type of vinyl foils. These foils have hardly changed since they were introduced in the 60's. Only the T.T.I. group now uses the revolutionary 4D-Vinyl. This new type of vinyl was developed in 2005, exclusively for the manufacture of water mattresses. In fact this is a whole new generation of waterbeds that has a lot of advantages compared with previous systems which used traditional foils.

The fit of a water mattress and its edge are very important. That is why it's better that you choose a water mattress and softside that are made in the same company. Many cheaper imported mattresses are provided with bed frames that are produced in tiny sister companies. This often doesn't improve the quality.
Quality
When purchasing a waterbed it is important that you pay attention to the quality of the presented products.
Many dealers offer you inferior products, manufactured in low cost areas in the Far East. These imported mattresses are shipped in a container, and often stored here for a long time, before they are actually sold.
Obviously these importers can't offer made-to-measure solutions.

Are there different types of 4D-water mattresses?
The difference lies for the most part in the materials used. The original waterbeds were made of plain PVC foil containing only water. These mattresses are called non stabilized or free flow. More modern water mattresses apply several methods to subdue the movement and shifting of water within the container. Through cylinders, compartments or polyester fibre fillings, water mattresses can be provided with distinct levels of stabilization. Which stabilization level you choose depends on your personal preference. It is important to pay attention that your chosen stabilization does not influence the pure feeling of sleeping on water.

The ultra modern 4D-Comfort mattresses are more and more manufactured with an extra extensible upper layer. This raises the comfort and adjustability of your mattress even further. The comfort area in the form of a patented pattern, a diagonal rack pattern or a five zone classification ensures extra lowering of pressure, as a result of which one must turn oneself less. The added sleep quality has a wide variety of benefits, ranging from a slimmer body to a more balanced hormone household.

Furthermore, there is a distinction between one-piece (UNO) water mattresses, and those consisting of two containers (dual system). Your local dealer will be able to select the right type of 4D-Comfort system which suits you (and your partner) the best.
