Washing instructions
The washing
instructions that manufacturers or their designers put on products are indicative, but in many
cases you're allowed to wash the product at a lower temperature. People often think they need to
wash fabrics at a higher temperature to get them cleaned properly. Most washing products these days
are quite effective at lower temperatures, which means it is unnecessary to wash them at higher
temperatures and in the mean time wasting precious energy.
It is good to make a habit of setting the temperature as low as possible, keeping in mind
that the washing instructions are there for your assistence. Try to wash as much as you can at
40°C. If you usually use the boiling programme, it is worth knowing that a lot of detergents are
very effective even at 30°C. If consider that if you wash at 60°C you could save about 50% on your
electricity bill, just imagine what 30°C could mean for you! The result should be exactly the
same, so why not try it out?
The washing symbols that are used for your clothes also apply to your quilt and other
bedlinen. To make sure you wash them properly, it is very important to examine these symbols before
you put the items in the washing machine, when possible. Because these symbols are not clear to
everyone, you can find a brief summary of the most current symbols below.
There are five simple maintenance symbols.
